Solo guitarist Osamuraisan, a popular guitarist amongst audiences that span the globe and different generations, we at Headway have decided to create a signature model in collaboration with him, giving us, as a result, the -HJ-OSAMURAISAN- (Later renewed as the follow-up -HJ-OSAMURAISANII-). In adition to these, we also created a small-bodied mini guitar, the -HM-OSAMURAISAN-, a model that balances great looks with a set of carefully applied processes like a dovetail joint and a lower string action, that give us an amazing performance too.
Red spider lily design
Inspired by Osamurai’s original song “Soshihana” (another name for Red spider lily), we put a Red spider lily decal on the body. The flowers are intentionally placed so that they face upward when holding the guitar.
The 12th fret of the fretboard is carefully inlaid with a Japanese stylized fox made of wood and shell.
A mini guitar designed with ease of holding and carrying in mind
In addition to the 579mm scale and a total length of about 880mm, the maximum thickness of the body is merely about 10cm, and it is designed for an easy holding. In contrast to the existing signature model HJ-OSAMURAISAN’s large body shape, this new model is a great fit not only for children and beginners who are new to guitars but also for players with small bodies. It is also suitable for carrying as a travel guitar and for playing or practicing on the go.
Low string action
As with the HJ-OSAMURAISAN, the strings of the extra light gauge are stretched to set the string height low, these adjustments are made with the goal of “ease of play” in mind. Guitars made of wood, which is a natural material, have individual differences even while being the same model and design, but while this is the case, we do our best to carefully check the characteristics of each unit and treat them to the best of our ability here in our workshop to ensure the best quality possible is achieved and every single guitar is shipped ready in its best condition.

After seeing the feedback users gave us regarding the original HJ-OSAMURAISAN we decided to develop a new guitar. Many of these comments involve questions about. Smaller players, like younger people or people with smaller hands in general.
Larger guitars like the HJ-OSAMURAISAN can still be played by anyone if they get used to it, but the difference in size can make it difficult. On top of that, I felt like I wanted a high-quality mini guitar that can also be carried around when traveling with ease.
The guitar that meets all these requirements is the -HM-OSAMURAI SAN- we created this time. We strung short scale, extra light strings, and string action is lowered. All of these adjustments gives us, as a result, an amazingly easy to play and accessible guitar. Because of its lightness and small size, it is also ideal as a guitar for going out and traveling, and it is a guitar that is easy to store and easy to play on the road.
Also, the big difference from other mini guitars is that the body is quite thin. The bass will be slightly reduced, but it will be stylish and portable, and it will be easier for people with a smaller physique to hold and play it. Since it’s a mini guitar, I felt like this exchange was worth the benefits it brings with it.
From ancient times in Japan, there has been the term “useful beauty.” It means that tools that pursue functionality are beautiful. Paradoxically beautiful things that are created by pursuing practicality rather than pursuing beauty from the beginning end up being the most beautiful.
This guitar has rich mid-low tones and a more round, cute tone fitting of a mini guitar, and it has a well-balanced sound backed by Headway’s solid technology. Considering the price and the construction of this mini guitar, the accuracy of the pitch, the richness of the timbre, and the high playability, it really is a remarkable model.
For the design, I went for a bold and stylish jet-black body with the general motif being based on my song *Soshika*, with the red spider lily and a fox on the fingerboard, which to me gives it a -Japanese feeling-. “The leaves think of the flowers, the flowers think of leaves.” The Red spider lily is a plant which flowers and leaves never come out at the same time. Flowers and leaves that cannot see each other, they can only think of each other.
This is the image I wanted to convey with the design of this guitar.
