Special model made of “Tochi” (Japanese horse chestnut) and “Sakura” (cherry blossom) from Ishikawa Prefecture!【#OneDayGuitarShow】
For starters
We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the people in the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture who suffered great damage from the earthquake and flooding that occurred in 2024.
In this article, we would like to introduce a limited edition guitar made of wood from Ishikawa Prefecture, which will be unveiled at the “Deviser One Day Guitar Show”, our annual November product launch event, with photos of the product being manufactured.
A portion of the proceeds from the sales of these limited edition products will be donated to Ishikawa Prefecture after the event to support earthquake and tsunami relief efforts.
We hope that this initiative will help in the recovery efforts amidst the aftermath of the disaster that still remains in various places.
Instruments made from cherry and horse chestnut trees grown in Ishikawa Prefecture
The Ishikawa wood used in this project is cherry (Sakura) and horse chestnut (Tochi), two Japanese woods that Deviser has been focusing on for more than 10 years in its guitar manufacturing.
1) Headway Acoustic Guitar made of Ishikawa Sakura wood
Our acoustic guitar brand Headway uses Sakura wood from Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture, which is characterized by the light coloring typically found in Sakura wood.
Motif of a golden eagle, Ishikawa’s prefectural bird
The Headway brand places great importance not only on the use of locally produced materials, but also on incorporating elements unique to the region into the design of its instruments.
The model incorporates the golden eagle, the prefectural bird of Ishikawa Prefecture, as a motif in each part, expressing the powerful figure of the golden eagle and the cherry blossoms which signify Sakura, the material used for the model, fluttering with the golden eagle’s wings.
Decoration by Kanazawa’s gold leaf artisan group “Hakuichi”
In addition, the brand plate applied to the inside of the body and the included sound hole cover were decorated by Kanazawa’s premier gold leaf craftsman group, “Hakuichi”.
Several months before the model was to be manufactured, we went to “Hakuichi” in Kanazawa to share the concept and design of the model, and began joint production of the brand plate and soundhole cover. The finished plate and cover are shown below.
If you are wondering to see how these look on the finished guitar, you’ll have to wait until the 13th of November when the One Day Guitar Show even page goes live!
(2) Ishikawa Someiyoshino Top Momose Winter Sakura Electric Guitar and Electric Bass
Momose, a brand of electric guitars and basses bearing the name of past craftsman Yasuo Momose, has selected Someiyoshino cherry trees grown in Ishikawa Prefecture as the top material for the body of the One Day Guitar Show model. This is a kind of cherry tree that everyone is familiar with and fond of in Japan and is a representative variety that blooms in various places in Ishikawa Prefecture.
Gold leaf decoration by “Hakuichi”
The top of the headstock is decorated with gold leaf by Kanazawa craftsman group Hakuichi, just like the Headway model above.
Golden eagle and cherry blossom motif
The fretboard, like the Headway acoustic guitar, is decorated with motifs of a golden eagle, the prefectural bird of Ishikawa Prefecture, and fluttering cherry blossoms. The fine parts are carefully placed by hand.
Winter sakura theme coloring
To coincide with the release season, the guitars were painted in a gradation of colors based on Momose’s popular “Winter Sakura” motif. Excluding the painting booth, guitars of various body shapes were being worked on.
This Momose product will also be available in its entirety on Wednesday, November 13.
(3) Momose limited editions made of Japanese horse chestnut from Ishikawa Prefecture.
Lastly, we would like to introduce a Momose brand limited edition guitar made of tochi (Japanese horse chestnut) from Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. Momose has manufactured many guitars using tochi wood in the past, but this time Momose obtained a beautiful white wood with superb flame grain, which even the craftsmen were impressed by.
The body back is also made of tochi wood, which gives you a more direct experience of the “sound of tochi,” with its sharp and clear sound.
Vivid coloring and white wood surface
To take full advantage of this material, the paint craftsmen chose a vibrant coloring that combines blue and purple.
The deep blue color, which can truly be expressed thanks to the white wood base, and the burst finish, which changes gently to a more subdued purple toward the center of the body, is the result.
Pickguard incorporating Ishikawa logo
The pickguard incorporates the distinctive Ishikawa shape, which attests to the fact that the top material of this instrument, tochi wood, is from Ishikawa Prefecture.
We offer an extensive lineup of electric guitars as well as electric basses, allowing various players to experience the charm of Japanese wood materials.
Hoping for the Recovery of the Noto Region
As the months have passed since the disaster, the frequency of news reports has decreased, but we have heard stories of areas that are still in the process of recovery. It was during this time that we began to wonder if there was anything we could do to help, and this project using lumber from Ishikawa Prefecture was born.
We hope that we can provide even a small amount of support to the people of the Noto Peninsula through our guitars and basses, and that the number of people who are interested in the current situation will increase, even if only by one person.
