Headway’s Cherry Blossom Guitar Celebrates its 10th Anniversary
Our Sakura (Japanese Cherry Tree) wood guitar history began with a single ukulele built in 2014. Headway has been working with this wood, which has a different sound and quality than imported wood, with the knowledge and skills we have gained over the years of making guitars. This year, Headway celebrates its 10th anniversary and has created a special model with the hope that it will take another leap forward and spread its wings to the world.
Sakura-Slant Gradation
The color “Sakura-Slant Gradation”, the first diagonal gradation in the Standard Series, debuts in this model.
The body is colored in soft cherry blossom colors from the lower right to the upper left like falling cherry blossoms.
Made to commemorate the 10th anniversary
Crane motif inlay engraved on the headstock
To express our appreciation for the 10th anniversary of Sakura guitars, which many users have supported throughout the years, we designed a “crane” inlay on the headstock, symbolizing good luck. The crane is also a migratory bird, and we hope that this guitar will be loved not only in Japan but also all over the world, transcending the confines of Japan.
Blooming cherry blossom inlay and purple heart material pickguard
One of the symbolic elements of the cherry blossom model is the cherry blossom inlay on the fingerboard, skillfully rendered in acrylic and wood. In addition, purple heart wood with its purple color was used for the pickguard.
Body made of Yamazakura (wild cherry tree wood)
Yamazakura cherry wood collected in Japan is used for the back and side. It is very hard and has a peak in the low midrange, but also produces a sweet sound characteristic of Sakura wood. The center of the body is decorated with a centerline made of purple heart wood, the same material used for the pickguard.
Anniversary logo commemorating the 10th anniversary
The back of the headstock is engraved with the anniversary logo, inspired by the “woman with the Japanese umbrella” that symbolizes Headway’s cherry blossom model, and exclusive to the 10th anniversary model.
34 semi-forward shifting bracing
Headway master builder Yasuo Momose studied the bracing of a 1934 vintage guitar and developed his own bracing, which is a semi-forward shift with the X cross position close to the soundhole, which gives the guitar more bass response and volume than when new. The X cross position is 5mm closer to the bridge than the forward shift, which is designed for improved stability of the top board.
