SAKURA UKULELE Brand concept

At Deviser, we have been producing “Sakura guitars” using Japanese cherry blossoms as the material for our Headway, Momose, Bacchus, SeventySeven, and STR brands for many years now. At first, we weren’t familiar with Sakura wood as a material, and making instruments from it was a challenge. We feel that there are infinite possibilities in making instruments with Sakura wood.

More beautiful, more gentle, more delicate, more accessible, that’s what the “SAKURA UKULELE” seeks to bring. A brand specializing in Japanese cherry as a material to infuse your life and your music with the beautiful colors of the Japanese tradition.

「SAKURA UKULELE」× KARUIZAWA-CARVING

SAKURA UKULELE collaborated with “Karuizawa Carving Shibazaki”, which boasts a history of 77 years since its establishment in Karuizawa in 1947. Karuizawa Carving’s cherry blossom pattern carving is one of its traditions, and the decoration has a sense of traditional history but with a Western spin to it due to the traditional Japanese craftsmanship and the location of Karuizawa.

Cherry blossom spirit that is visible throughout the design & Karuizawa collaboration

The design of cherry blossoms scattered throughout this model and the Karuizawa carving combine to create a gorgeous, yet elegant, atmosphere of cherry blossoms.

The fretboard, headstock top, and pickguard are made of Purpleheart wood, which has a natural, purple color. The position marks also incorporate a small cherry blossom petal design.

The headstock top, pickguard, and neck all feature Karuizawa carvings that give this model a tangible Sakura look.
The meticulous carving of the inside of a flower and even the veins of a leaf is an art form created by traditional craftsmanship that is the pride of Japan.

The same Purpleheart as the fretboard is used for the pickguard, which is carved in detail with a motif of cherry blossom petals. Karuizawa carving on the headstock top and pickguard completes the total design.

The SAKURA UKULELE x KARUIZAWA carving models for the 2024 One-Day Guitar Show are colored according to the theme of the four seasons, and this model is finished in shades that combine the whiteness of snow and the transience of cherry blossoms under the winter theme.

Because it is SAKURA UKULELE, we stick to the Sakura sound

SAKURA UKULELE is made of Japanese wild cherry wood, also known as mountain sakura, or Yamazakura, for the body and neck. Compared to mahogany or maple, which are commonly used for ukuleles, cherry is a hard wood with high specific gravity. This is the “Sakura Sound” that only SAKURA UKULELE can produce.

Original logo gig bag included

The Karuizawa Carving model comes with a special deluxe-type gig bag. The outer pocket is double-layered with a band to secure the neck and a thicker-than-usual inner cushion designed to protect your precious ukulele. The Sakura Ukulele original logo is included on the front.

※Although wooden pickguards have been reinforced, they may break if handled in the same manner as conventional metal or resin pickguards due to the nature of the material. Please be careful when handling wooden pickguards.
