Introduction

Finally, the new「SAKURA UKULELE」brand is here!

At Deviser, we have been producing “Sakura guitars” using Japanese cherry blossoms as the material for our Headway, Momose, Bacchus, SeventySeven, and STR brands for many years now. At first, we weren’t familiar with Sakura wood as a material, and making instruments from it was a challenge. We feel that there are infinite possibilities in making instruments with Sakura wood.

More beautiful, more gentle, more delicate, more accessible, that’s what the “SAKURA UKULELE” seeks to bring. A brand specializing in Japanese cherry as a material to infuse your life and your music with the beautiful colors of the Japanese tradition.

Soprano size Sakura ukulele 『SUS-SAKURA BLONDE』

The first model of SAKURA UKULELE is a soprano-size Sakura ukulele with a body and neck made of Yamakazura, or “Japanese wild cherry” wood.

Compared to mahogany or maple, which are commonly used for ukuleles, Sakura is a hard wood with high specific gravity. By using Sakura wood not only for the body but also for the neck, the sound has the delicacy of a soprano ukulele with a sharp midrange and the sweetness characteristic of the material.

The finish uses a see-through and matte paint in order to allow you to enjoy the grain of the Sakura wood, which will give every unit its own character.
The “Sakura Blonde” color is used to bring out the original pinkish color of the cherry blossoms, while the color of the Purpleheart wood is more contrasting.

Cherry blossom spirit visible throughout the design

The pickguard is made of the same purpleheart as the fingerboard and features a motif of cherry blossom petals. This detail gives the SAKURA UKULELE a glamorous appearance and also ties the whole design together.

Even the position markers feature a cherry blossom petal design.

The design is simple in appearance, yet meticulous in detail, and was created to be accessible to a wide range of people, to be kept close at hand, and to feel lovely and familiar.

Ukulele player, Tomoki Suzuki’s comments

SAKURA UKULELE is a very well-balanced ukulele with a good bass sound, which is difficult to produce on a ukulele, and a clear treble sound. It is a soprano sized ukulele with 18 frets, which I think makes it very easy to play. The body and neck are made of Japanese cherry wood, which is a unique feature of the SAKURA UKULELE, and the design, which is not flashy but beautiful and graceful, is also very Japanese and endearing.

※Although wooden pickguards have been reinforced, they may break if handled in the same manner as conventional metal or resin pickguards due to the nature of the material. Please be careful when handling wooden pickguards.
