Introduction
STR’s reinterpretation of tradition – “T.E” models, a new standard
The new STR Custom Shop model “TE” was developed based on the concept of “An Evolution on Tradition”. The TE incorporates elements of traditional bass designs and specifications in a unique interpretation and sublimates them into a new standard.
Newly developed body shape
The STR body shape has evolved through numerous fine-tuning processes, taking into consideration the balance between playability and appearance. As the latest form, we have arrived at a refined shape that accentuates the pickguard design. The combination of the pickguard and the paint also offers a wider range of options for custom orders.
2 volume, 1 tone placement + active circuit
The 2-volume + 1-tone control layout that is commonly used on most passive basses and loved by many players has been preserved for this design, with the 3-band EQ arranged in parallel. The layout is also designed for ease of use and sound creation in passive mode, making it easy for players accustomed to passive bass operation to get used to the layout.
Neck joint
Redesigned neck joint to match the same depth as traditional basses. This contributes to a sound output that is more vintage-oriented than previous STRs, and allows for versatile sound-making in both active and passive modes.
Ebony binding and block inlay
Inheriting the 70’s design, we have adopted black block inlays for a traditional and cool look. In order to enhance the fit when the neck is gripped, the edges of the fingerboard and frets have been carefully rounded with wood binding. Ebony is used for the material, instead of the usual celluloid, because of its superior durability.
Circuit
STR uses a combination of Aguilar’s OBP-3 preamp and Hot Jazz pickups, which STR has full confidence in. This combination provides a versatile sound that can be used in any situation. The rear pickup is positioned closer to the bridge, again with the 70’s style in mind. This makes it possible to create a tone with emphasis in the high-frequency range.
Antique frame finish
Painted using a traditional technique used for framing Western paintings. By commissioning a craftsman specializing in picture frame painting, we have created a finish with a rich antique feel.
※Due to the nature of the gold leaf used, the gold leaf may turn green over time or due to friction with the player’s clothes. We appreciate your understanding.
